The Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW) launches work experience program for post-secondary graduates with disabilities.
Toronto, Ontario - Youth-Ability in Skilled Trades (YAST) is a project of CCRW funded by Service Canada. This is a 24-week program that promotes career opportunities for persons with disabilities by providing skill development enabling them to successfully secure employment in their chosen field.
Project participants will develop skills in research, web development, community outreach, communications, activity planning, compiling and organizing information, public speaking, leadership and teamwork. The material developed by this team will enable stakeholders to learn how and where to obtain the necessary training to further careers in the skilled trades industry.
Project participants will gain practical experience in conducting research and developing a website while producing six provincial resource manuals that will introduce other marginalized youth with disabilities to career opportunities in today's skilled trades. ‘Skilled trades' resource manuals will be used to facilitate presentations to youth with disabilities promoting careers in the skilled trades.
This innovative youth-centred project targets 28 youth with disabilities (15-30 years of age) who are recent post secondary graduates. They will be employed and will work out of 6 provincial CCRW offices across Canada .
The Program Coordinator and Researcher positions will be advertised among the students and alumni with disabilities in college/university. Youth with disabilities who are interested in the YAST are encouraged to visit our website for complete details and job postings: www.workink.com .
